The Arts at Queen's Park
Annual inter-school art competition 2026
At Queen's Park Primary School, the Arts provide children with opportunities to be creative, expressive and reflective individuals. Through exploring, creating and responding to a wide range of artistic experiences, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to communicate ideas, emotions and stories in meaningful ways. Drawing upon diverse artists, cultures, traditions and creative disciplines, children learn to think imaginatively, take creative risks and develop an appreciation of the role the arts play in shaping both personal identity and the wider world.
Our arts curriculum reflects the values that underpin learning at Queen's Park Primary School:
A Sense of Belonging
Through a diverse and inclusive range of artists, art forms and cultural experiences, children are encouraged to explore who they are, where they come from and how creativity connects people across time and cultures. The arts provide a space where every child's background, identity and experiences are recognised, celebrated and valued.

Pathways to Success
Our curriculum develops children's knowledge and skills across drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and digital art, with learning carefully sequenced to build confidence, creativity and technical proficiency over time. Through artistic exploration, children develop resilience, problem-solving skills and reflective thinking that support success across all areas of learning and life.
Spoken Language and Communication (Oracy)
Children are encouraged to discuss their own work and the work of others using precise artistic vocabulary. Through critique, collaboration, presentation and reflection, pupils learn to communicate their ideas effectively, justify their creative choices and respond thoughtfully to different perspectives.
The Power of Literature
By exploring the stories behind artists, artworks and artistic movements, children deepen their understanding of cultural, historical and social contexts. Rich texts and stories inspire creative work, helping pupils make meaningful connections between what they see, read and create.
This year, Queen’s Park is proudly participating in the Amaze Story Trail.

Irresistibility
We are committed to making the arts engaging, memorable and inspiring. Lessons are practical, stimulating and designed to spark curiosity and joy. Children are encouraged to experiment with materials, techniques and ideas, embracing challenge and viewing mistakes as valuable opportunities for artistic growth.
Beyond the classroom, children benefit from a rich programme of authentic artistic experiences that allow them to represent Queen's Park and engage with the wider community. These opportunities include:

-
Silverbox Kids filmmaking project and Odean premier
-

Ultimately, we aim for every child to develop not only artistic skill and creative confidence, but also a genuine appreciation of the arts and their power to communicate, connect and inspire. Through a vibrant and inclusive arts education, children leave Queen's Park as imaginative, confident and culturally aware individuals with a lifelong appreciation of creativity and self-expression.
